Under the hedge, Nola patted her nest: one, two, three, four, five soft leaves. The wind went hush-hush through the grass. She wanted one more for the chilly night, so she stepped out of her cozy hole and followed a trail that curled like a big 6.
A prickly burr stuck to her paw. “Ouch, but onward,” she whispered. At the bend, Nola peeked into the round hollow and found not a leaf, but a tiny feather, warm and downy, hidden where no beetle had looked.
