🎨 How to color it

Color the number 7 butter yellow, the bow coral pink, the striped rain boots teal and white, and the umbrella panels sky blue with lilac hearts and puffy white clouds. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny hearts, cloud bumps, boot stripes, and curved puddle ripples so the details stay crisp. Try making the raindrops darker at the top and lighter at the bottom, as if each one is catching a little gray daylight.

The story behind this coloring page

Seven Waits Out the Plink — Every rainy afternoon, Vera set her glass jar beside the crooked awning and waited for seven perfect plinks from the gutter. Read the full story →

Every rainy afternoon, Vera set her glass jar beside the crooked awning and waited for seven perfect plinks from the gutter. Plink one smelled like wet sidewalk, plink two made her boots wiggle, and plink three usually arrived before the bakery clock sneezed steam. She never rushed the rain; rushed plinks sounded like soggy popcorn. Until one day, after plink six, a tiny crab wearing a striped sock scuttled out from under a newspaper and shouted, “No more drops! I’m rehearsing tap dance!”

Because of that, Vera held her umbrella sideways, and the next drop bounced off a heart on the fabric instead of into the jar. Because of THAT, the sock-crab heard the soft pat-pat-pat above him and began tapping along, faster than a pencil on a desk. He tapped left, right, snip-snap, and accidentally kicked the jar exactly under the gutter. Plink seven fell in with a bright glassy ping.

Vera corked the jar and bowed. The crab bowed too, though his sock slid over one eye. Next time rain dots the lane, count slowly—maybe the seventh perfect plink is waiting under a crooked awning.
