🎨 How to color it

Color the number 1 in sapphire blue, the triangular inner facets in teal and icy lavender, and the crystal clusters in pale amethyst with silver-gray edges. Use sharp colored pencils for the many small triangles, coloring from the outer crystal points toward the larger center panels to keep the lines crisp. Try a bright golden glow inside the tall triangle on the front, as if the handmade gem has caught a secret beam of light.

Every day, Halen swept the floor of the crystal forge before sunrise, saving the brightest glass chips in a tin cup. He wanted to build one standing numeral with his own hands before the Solstice Count, not a practice shard, not a copied pattern. The forge smelled of warm dust and rainwater, and his file made a thin shhhk, shhhk against each crooked edge.

Until one day, his careful tower sagged sideways with a clack that made the lamp flames jump. Because of that, Halen crawled under the workbench to fetch a fallen blue triangle. Because of THAT, he saw a speck of light winking from a place nobody cleaned: the narrow groove beneath the bench leg. “Wait,” he whispered, and pried out a tiny star of clear crystal, already shaped like the missing center brace.

At last, Halen fitted the secret spark into the numeral’s heart. The whole figure stood straighter, throwing cool blue and violet patches across his sleeves. He did not shout for the master; he ran one dusty thumb along the edge he had filed himself and smiled. Next time you notice all those sharp little pieces, see if you can spot the place where the hidden spark holds the whole thing steady, shhhk, shhhk.
