At the corner flower stand, Pippa rubbed a tiny red button in her pocket. She wanted to tell her first joke to the smiling tulip, but her knees made tap-tap sounds on the wooden crate. The tulip smelled like rain and candy. Pippa whispered, “Why did the seed giggle?”
Before she could answer, the button slipped out, plink! It rolled right between the leaves. The tulip bent close, and all its little hearts seemed to grin. A beetle popped up wearing the button like a fancy hat.
