🎨 How to color it

Color her heart tiara bright gold, her tutu bubblegum pink, the big waist bow cherry red, and the tiny sparkles lemon yellow. Use chunky crayons for the wide skirt panels and crown hearts, and don’t worry if little hands color over the tiny dots. Try making the heart on her bodice match the heart-shaped skirt front so the whole costume feels like one brave dance outfit.

Every evening, Bea tucked a shiny heart button into her dance pouch and raced along the lantern pier before the shell-drum music began. Tap-tap, swish-swish, she loved the salty wind and wanted the first beat under her toes.

Until one evening, the button grew warm and rolled away, pinging across the wooden boards. Bea chased it past gull feathers and rope coils, and because of that she found a round little stage at the pier’s end. Because of that, the shell drums boomed closer, and fishers, dancers, and sleepy pelicans gathered in a hurry.

“Here?” Bea whispered. The button flashed like a tiny sunrise. So Bea climbed onto the circle, lifted her arms, and danced the first beat exactly where the pier, the sea, and the music met. Next time you spot the little round stand beneath her shoe, can you hear tap-tap, swish-swish?
