🎨 How to color it

Color the fox ninja’s fur pumpkin orange, the mask deep indigo, the headband bow cherry red, and the little scroll warm parchment tan. Use crayons or markers in the big open shapes first, then switch to a sharper pencil for the scroll squiggles and the leaf veins. Try making the floating leaf yellow at the stem and bright orange at the curled tip, like it just spun down from an autumn tree.

Under the maple ropes, Nessa tucked her paws under her and unrolled her first trail scroll. The paper smelled dusty and sweet, like old wood. She wanted to read one clue before the big kids came back from leaping the stumps. Her ears wiggled. Her paws tapped. “Just one,” she whispered.

The scroll showed three wavy marks, two tiny dashes, and a curl. Nessa copied the curl in the dirt. Swish! A dry leaf spun down, soft as a feather, and landed above her nose. She almost ducked, but she stayed still.

Then the leaf popped open along its middle vein. Inside was the same curl, drawn in green! The scroll was not pointing to a path at all. It was asking the leaves to answer. Nessa grinned behind her mask and read the next mark aloud. If you spot that twirling leaf, maybe you can guess which clue answered first.
