Every day, Zuzu stood in the mitten drifts and counted his two shiny buttons: tap, tap. He dared himself to put one boot past the curly snow ridge, but the powder looked deep and whispery.
Until one day, a fat snowflake landed on his carrot nose with a cold plip. Zuzu sneezed, “A-choo!” and both boots hopped forward. Because of that, the snow squeaked like a tiny rubber duck. Because of THAT, three more squeaks answered from under the drifts, and Zuzu giggled so hard his scarf wiggled.
Finally, he stomped once on purpose. Squeak! The hidden snow-mice popped up and clapped with their paws. Next time you spot his boots in the fluffy drifts, can you imagine the tap, tap turning into squeak?
