🎨 How to color it

Color the snowman’s hat sky blue and cherry red, his scarf mint green, the candy cane red and white, and the pine trees deep forest green. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big round snowballs and wide hat stripes, then add the tiny snowflakes with a sharper crayon if your child wants to try. For a sweet twist, make every button a different gumdrop color while keeping the snowy body mostly white.

If I tell you a secret, keep it frosty: long ago, peppermint sticks were plain white. Tilly wanted one red stripe for her cane, so she stood very still in the candy-cane clearing. The pines creaked. Snow tickled her scarf. Nothing happened.

Then a tiny cane sprite popped from a drift with a soft “plink!” “Wait for the slow red,” it whispered. Tilly waited while the cold moon shone like milk. At last, a ruby line curled around the cane, then another, sweet-smelling and bright. Ever since, candy canes wear stripes because Tilly did not wiggle. Next time you spot her raised mitten, can you keep the secret too?
