🎨 How to color it

Color the smiling flower’s petals butter yellow, its round face peach, the leaves spring green, and the raindrops sky blue. Use chunky crayons for the big petals and rainbow bands, and don’t worry if little hands color over the bold black lines. Try making each rainbow stripe a soft different color so the happy flower looks like it is sharing the rain.

Under the soft pat-pat rain, Della tapped one leaf, then the other. She had invented a game called Drop, Hop, Smile: catch a raindrop, pass a giggle to the grass, and save one bright laugh for the sky. But the low clouds only rumbled, gray and sleepy.

“My joy is too big for my stem,” Della whispered. She shook her petals. Up flew a warm yellow laugh, a leafy green cheer, and a rosy little whoop. The clouds caught them, curved them, and stretched them across the rainy hills.
