Before the moon finished its slow silver blink, Quilla set herself a challenge: count every giggle in the doodle night. She floated between pumpkin grins and curly wind loops, tapping one chilly finger in the air. “One pumpkin snort, two ghost squeaks, three moon hiccups,” she whispered, while the stars twinkled like spoons in a drawer.
The counting took patience. A tiny dot went pop, a heart made a soft pfft, and one jack-o’-lantern laughed so hard its triangle eyes seemed to wobble. Quilla waited beside a crescent moon until even the swirls stopped spinning. At last she heard the smallest sound of all: hee.
It came from a star pretending to be only a sparkle. Then another star giggled, and another, until the whole sky was full of secret little hees. Quilla grinned and started again, slower this time, because the best giggles were the ones that waited. If you visit the doodle night, can you spot the star that laughed first before the moon finishes its slow silver blink?
