🎨 How to color it

Color the evergreen pine needles forest green, the big star bright gold, the round ornaments candy red and sky blue, and the snowy hills pale blue. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the wide tree tiers, then switch to a sharper crayon tip for the small ornament circles and snowflake arms. Try making the star glow by coloring its middle yellow and its outer points orange.

Every evening, Arlo held his branches still and listened for the snow bells. The wind went hush-hush through his needles, and the round ornaments tapped softly, but no bells came.

Until one night, a snowflake landed on the top star and did not melt. Because of that, the star gave a tiny click. Because of THAT, its folded points opened just enough to let out a silver cricket, curled up where nobody had thought to look.

“I waited for quiet,” chirped the cricket. Then it rubbed its wings: ting-ting, ting-ting. Snowflakes paused in the blue dark, and every ornament shivered with the sound. Arlo kept still, happy at last, and if you peek at the star, you may wonder what else is waiting for quiet.
