🎨 How to color it

Give the sower’s hat straw yellow, his shirt sky blue, the seed sack oatmeal tan, and the little fence bird a warm robin brown. Use chunky crayons or markers to fill the wide furrows first, then color the tiny falling seeds with careful pencil dots. Try making every other row a different green so the field looks like it is playing along with his seed game.

The story behind this coloring page

The Seed-Hop Trick — Every morning, the rows made soft shuff-shuff sounds under Luca’s boots as he helped scatter seed in his family’s field. Read the full story →

Every morning, the rows made soft shuff-shuff sounds under Luca’s boots as he helped scatter seed in his family’s field. He wanted his new game, Seed-Hop, to make the work quicker: one seed for the row, one seed for the dip, and one seed tossed with a wink at the fence post. “No peeking, Pip!” he told the round little bird who always watched.

Until one day, Pip peeked—and hopped right after the winking seed. Because of that, Luca tossed seeds in zigzags to trick him, and because of THAT, the rows looked silly as a goat’s grin. At last, Luca laughed and made Pip the scorekeeper, counting chirps while the real seeds went straight into the soil. The warm dirt smelled like supper bread, and Luca knew the field had room for his boots, his game, and one nosy bird. Can you find where Pip kept score while the rows went shuff-shuff?
