🎨 How to color it

Color the rose petals deep crimson, the serrated leaves forest green, and the crossing thorny stems a warm olive brown. Use sharp colored pencils for the thin petal veins and leaf ribs, pulling each stroke outward from the center lines. Try fading the inner spiral from burgundy to soft pink so the bloom looks secret-lit.

Under the old bramble tunnel, Oren carried a pea-sized lantern in a walnut shell, hurrying to lead the night moths home before fog swallowed the path. The air smelled of wet bark and iron-rich mud. Then a silver snail slid from a crack, its shell dark and cold. “Your light,” it whispered, “could wake the sleeping rose.”

Oren needed that spark. Without it, the moths would bump and shiver in the milky dark. But the snail’s feelers trembled toward a tight, pale bud tangled above the tunnel. Oren tipped his walnut shell. The spark rolled out, warm as toast, and sank into the bud where nobody but the snail could see.

By morning, the rose had opened with a glow tucked deep in its curled heart, and the moths found their way by that hidden shine. Ever since, roses keep their brightest color folded near the center, and their thorns guard the secret gift; next time you see those crossing stems, can you spot where Oren’s little lantern might be hiding?
