Every evening, Oren counted cookies for Santa with a silver scoop: clink, clink, clink. He wanted to add something made by his own hands, so he pressed dough into crooked little moons and stars, flour soft as snow on his fingers.
Until one day, a white snow hare hopped in through the wood basket and tapped a paw beside the cold milk mug. Because of that, Oren tied a ribbon around the mug handle. Because of THAT, Santa noticed the wobble-edged cookies first and took the smallest, proudest bite. “Who made these?” he whispered. Oren held up his floury hands. Later, when the fire snapped and the stockings swayed, could you spot the plate where Oren’s moons and stars waited?
