At the sunny diner tray, Junie rolled in place while the coffee cups puffed cinnamon steam: hoo-hoo, hee-hee. She wanted the whole breakfast crew to laugh at once, so she wiggled her icing stripes, jingled her sprinkles, and made the spoon snort against the napkin. The little sugar suns beamed from above, but the cups only giggled in drips.
Junie leaned closer to her own middle, where everyone usually saw nothing at all. From the round empty space came a tiny “Psst!” A hidden bubble popped out, wearing one sprinkle like a hat, and it shouted, “I saved the loud laugh!”
The laugh bounced through the donut hole, around the heart plate, under the spoon, and into every steam curl until the whole tray shook with joy. Next time you see that round middle, dare it not to giggle: hoo-hoo, hee-hee.
