🎨 How to color it

Color the lion’s mane golden brown, his jester collar ruby red with teal bells, the CIRCUS banner cream with navy letters, and the stage curtains deep burgundy. Use sharp colored pencils for the banner letters, dangling stars, and triangular bunting, then switch to broader strokes for the lion’s body and curtain panels. For a retro twist, alternate mustard yellow and coral on the pedestal triangles while keeping the round spots bright turquoise.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the quiet tent, sawdust tickled Nico’s paws while he stitched a tiny star from scraps of yellow cloth. He wanted it for his collar before the evening march, something made by his own claws instead of handed down from the costume trunk. But the middle needed a button, and the only one he loved—a dull wooden one with a crescent scratch—rolled off the spool box and slipped through a crack with a soft tok.

Nico squeezed under the velvet side curtain and padded into the prop tunnels, where old hoops smelled like dust, glue, and lemon polish. His mane caught cobwebs. A tin moon clanged against his tail. At last he found the button beside a locked music crate, glowing faintly along its scratch. “Well, that’s not ordinary,” Nico whispered. He pressed it into his cloth star, and the star hummed like a tiny brass band.

Back in the ring, Nico sewed the last stitch himself. When he stepped onto the striped stand, the homemade star winked under his mane, small but bright. Next time you spot his proud smile beneath the banner, see if you can find the place where sawdust first tickled his paws.
