🎨 How to color it

Color the mermaid’s tail emerald green, her flowing hair coral pink, the sea turtle olive, and the little shipwreck weathered brown. Use sharp colored pencils for the many tail scales, coral branches, and turtle-shell plates, saving broader marker strokes for the open sandy paths. Try making the starfish in her hair bright yellow-orange so they pop against a cool blue-green underwater background.

Every day, Nerissa slipped reef mail into sponge baskets and swam away before anyone could ask questions. The coral smelled peppery, the bubbles tickled her cheeks, and the striped fish always shouted, “Wrong basket!” until one day her satchel hiccupped.

Because of that, three pearl postcards shot out and spun toward the old shipwreck nobody visited, not even the nosy wrasse. Because of that, Nerissa had to follow them through creaking masts and silty shadows, her tail scales clicking like tiny spoons. Inside the captain’s hat, where nobody thought to look, sat a crab wearing one postcard as a cape and reading the others upside down. “Delivery inspection!” he squeaked.

Nerissa’s voice came out small, then steadier. “Those are mine, Captain Pinch.” The crab saluted, returned the mail, and handed her a bonus: a missing stamp made of moon-shell. Next time the striped fish yelled, Nerissa grinned and answered first; can you spot the shipwreck where her satchel first went hiccup?
