Every day, Luma stood in the beach cart freezer and waited for the snack bell: clang-clang! Then children came running over hot sand that smelled like salt and sunscreen. Luma wanted the bell rung right at noon, before anyone’s lemonade turned warm. Until one day, the bell rope snapped and skittered under the wooden sun sign.
Because of that, Luma hopped after it, thump-thump on her stick. Luma slid the coins into the lifeguard’s empty water jug and never said a word. Finally, the crab pinched the bell himself: clang-clang! Next time you spot that smiling sun, can you keep Luma’s secret cool-down?
