Under the wildflower arch, Nixie dared herself to gather one bloom from every stem that whispered her name. Hush—there went the tall daisy. Tap—there went the shy berry. The air smelled like green rain and sugar, and every leaf seemed to point somewhere she had not checked yet.
By noon her arms were full, but the bouquet would not stay gathered. Stems slid, berries bobbed, and one tiny heart charm on a loose thread kept knocking the glass jar: tink, tink, tink. Nixie leaned close. “Are you telling me a secret?” The thread tugged her fingers around the stems, over and under, loop and loop, until the whole bunch stood together as if it had been waiting for that hug.
Ever since, strawberry bouquets are tied with bows, because curiosity needs both hands free for the next secret. Next time you spot a little heart by the knot, you’ll know it was the first one to say tink, tink, tink.
