🎨 How to color it

Give the dragonfly a teal body with amber-veined wings, color the lotus blossoms rose pink, and make the cattails warm brown against deep green reeds. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny wing spirals, petal bands, and lily-pad veins, then switch to lighter pressure for the wide ripple rings. Try a cool blue-to-lavender wash in the open sky so the detailed dragonfly feels sunlit and handmade by contrast.

Under the hush of noon, Elian stitched reed-fiber wings beside the pond, wanting them strong enough to carry the small messages frogs left on floating leaves. The silk smelled of sun-warmed grass; his needle clicked, clicked, until a closed water lily tapped his wrist. Inside, where no one thought to look, lay a folded map of curls, dots, and scalloped lines, shining with pond-light. “So that’s your secret,” he whispered, and copied every mark by hand. When he lifted the finished wings, the air itself seemed proud. Ever since, dragonflies wear lace because Elian found summer’s pattern hidden in a lily bud.
