🎨 How to color it

Layer marigold orange on the mandala eyes, deep rose and coral through the rose crown, turquoise in the butterfly nose, and leaf green along the pointed leaves. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny dots, scallops, and crosshatched petals, turning the page as you follow each curved band around the skull. For a mischievous finish, hide one unexpected gold accent inside a tooth pattern or rose spiral where it nearly disappears.

Every evening, Vega inked spirals on festival skulls while the night bazaar smelled of cinnamon wax, wet stone, and fried sugar. She kept each rose balanced, each eye blooming like a tiny sun, until one day a painted tooth gave a rude little click. From behind it slid a folded note: “You missed the best place.” Because of that, she pried open the hollow tooth, and because of that, the skull began dropping confetti, bad jokes, and one stolen licorice ribbon onto her spotless worktable. The neighboring candle sellers applauded; the paper-flower twins booed with delight. Finally, Vega painted the secret tooth gold and left it slightly crooked, exactly where the prank wanted to live. After all her careful circles, the giggle in the grin was the only line that made the whole skull feel at home.
