🎨 How to color it

Layer emerald and teal across the parrot’s scalloped feathers, use coral on the curved beak, and give the vine leaves a deep jungle green with golden-yellow flower centers. Because the bird’s body is packed with tiny petals, curls, and feather bands, use sharp colored pencils and move section by section from the eye outward. Try a warm-to-cool shift down the long tail, fading from turquoise near the body to violet at the pointed tips.

The story behind this coloring page

Before sunrise, when the ornamental vine smelled of cool sap and unopened flowers, Orin set himself a small challenge: carry one perfect note to the far leaf and bring it back unchanged. He left his favorite curl of branch, claws scraping bark, and crossed the swaying stems while mist silvered his feathers. Halfway there, a thorn nicked the soft pad of one foot; his note wavered, then broke. From the far leaf, another parrot answered with the missing tone, gentle as water in a shell. Orin returned limping, not with one perfect note, but with a song too full to keep, and the vine smelled again of cool sap and unopened flowers.
