🎨 How to color it

Color the parrot’s head scarlet, its wing feathers emerald and teal, the leaning palm trunk sandy tan, and the large shell coral pink with cream stripes. Use sharp colored pencils for the parrot’s layered feather scallops and the palm frond notches, then switch to broad side-strokes for the sand and sky. Try making the ocean a blue-to-turquoise gradient so the warm red parrot and coral shell stand out like secret signals.

Under the leaning palm, Juno clicked three pebbles into a triangle and whispered the rules of her brand-new game: whoever found the loudest shell could hide a message in it. She wanted the striped conch beyond the damp sand, the one humming with the shhhush of the tide. Her rock was warm under her claws, but the best secrets never sat within reach.

Juno hopped down. The sand was cool and gritty, and the foam kept sneaking up to tickle her toes. Halfway there, she heard scratch-scratch-scratch. Five tiny crabs were marching in circles around a puddle, trapped by a fresh line of water. Juno could still grab the conch before the next wave, but instead she dragged seaweed into a wobbly bridge. “This way, no one’s looking,” she murmured.

The crabs clicked across and vanished beneath a flat stone. When Juno reached the conch, its hollow belly held a softer sound than winning: thank-you, thank-you, though nobody had said it aloud. She carried it back to her rock and made the first hidden message for the game. If you ever spot that striped shell in the sand, keep the secret—Juno’s three-pebble triangle began under the leaning palm.
