🎨 How to color it

Try coral pink on the scallop shell, sea-glass teal on the curling waves, sandy gold on the starfish, and soft lavender inside the paisley shapes. Because the shell ribs and starfish arms are packed with tiny zentangle details, use sharp colored pencils and color one patterned section at a time. Let the big shell shift from warm coral at the base to pale peach at the top, so it feels sunlit against cooler water.

The story behind this coloring page

Why Shells Hold Murmurs — At low tide, Celeste carried a dry scallop shell to the shallows, wanting only to ask the sea to remember her mother’s voice. Read the full story →

At low tide, Celeste carried a dry scallop shell to the shallows, wanting only to ask the sea to remember her mother’s voice. The water smelled of salt and warm stone; each little wave made her courage step back. She turned the shell over, then noticed a narrow groove in a resting starfish where no collector ever looked. Inside lay a bead of pure hush, cool as moonmilk. Celeste placed it in the shell and whispered, “Please.” The shell answered with a soft, circling murmur. Ever since, shells keep the sea’s tender voices for anyone brave enough to listen.
