🎨 How to color it

Layer coral pink into the three hibiscus blooms, buttery yellow on the plumeria centers, and deep emerald with lime veins across the long tropical leaves. Use sharp pencils and follow the petal ribs from the dark throats outward, then treat the curling tendrils as slow, single-stroke lines. For a summer-night twist, shade the empty spaces behind the flowers in pale aqua so the warm blossoms look sunlit.

Every evening, Iris crossed the glass conservatory with a brass message tube, counting the closed hibiscus buds by the warm smell of leaves and damp stone. She needed one scarlet bloom for the harbor lantern’s dye, but each flower held its pleated mouth shut while summer thunder rolled beyond the panes.

Until one day, a green moth as large as her palm struck the glass with a papery thrum and dropped a dusting of gold on her sleeve. Because of that, Iris followed it past the plumeria tubs and waited while it circled one stubborn bud; because of that, she saw a hairline split of color open exactly where she had nearly snapped the stem. Finally, she set down the tube, breathed with the rain, and let the moth finish its bright, frantic dance. At midnight, the hibiscus opened wide, and the harbor flashed red through the warm smell of leaves and damp stone.
