🎨 How to color it

Color the roller coaster cars cherry red, the Ferris wheel sky blue, the striped snack awnings lemon yellow, and the carousel horses creamy white. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny riders, bunting flags, wheel spokes, and booth details, then switch to markers for the wide coaster tracks and sunny sky. Try a warm sunset gradient behind the big sun so the looping track and Ferris wheel feel lit from above.

Before the gates opened, Quill walked the midway with a brass listening tube, catching tiny summer sounds before they scattered: popcorn crackle, ticket clicks, the carousel’s sleepy chime. He wanted one sound bright enough to wake the whole fair, so he climbed into the first roller coaster car and tucked the tube under his arm.

Up the track he rattled, click-clack, click-clack, past striped booths and the round Ferris wheel turning like a slow coin. At the highest bend, a girl in the back car laughed so hard that her laugh bounced off the rails, skipped across the flags, and rang inside Quill’s tube like a bell made of lemonade light.

Then a cloud leaned close. “May I carry that?” it whispered, its edge glowing warm from the sun. Quill opened the tube, and the laugh rose into the sky, where gulls, wheels, horses, and snack sellers heard it at once. “Share it wide,” Quill said.

All afternoon, whenever the coaster dipped, the cloud sent the laugh sailing back down. If you find the highest car next time, you might hear that click-clack joy starting all over again.
