🎨 How to color it

Try pearl gray for the rabbit, deep teal for the fan-shaped border, gold for the sunburst rays, and lavender for the scalloped cloud arches. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow ear markings, fur flames, and many parallel fan lines, turning the page as you work into each tight point. For a polished art-deco twist, shade the pedestal’s swirls from pale aqua to midnight blue so the rabbit seems balanced on a pool of moonlight.

Under the observatory’s glass ribs, Sable set one paw on the cool mosaic plinth and invented a game for the hour before dawn: every curve must find its echo. A spiral in the floor answered a curl in her tail; a crescent in the brass rail answered the pale arc of her ear. The air smelled faintly of dust, rain, and old metal warmed by starlight.

She played without keeping score. Lines rose around her in patient rays, and the scalloped cloud tiles seemed to breathe in silver and blue. When a tiny star winked above the western fan, Sable whispered, “Your turn.”

Then the room changed without moving. The game had not begun with her at all. From the ceiling, from the borders, from every little moon tucked into a corner, the observatory had been matching her since she stepped inside: ear to arch, whisker to ray, heartbeat to hush.

Sable lowered both paws onto the smooth plinth, wonder settling over her like velvet. At last she knew the rule of the game: nothing had to fit by force. The right place answered, curve for curve, under the observatory’s glass ribs.
