Every evening, Willa made three quiet splashes before her towel came down: plip, plip, plip. The warm bath smelled like soap clouds, and the tile wall shone in little squares. Until one day, on splash number two, something orange bumped her knee and said, “Quack-ahem.”
Because of that, Willa squeaked and grabbed the tub rim. Because of THAT, the rubber duck spun in a foamy circle and dared her to tap the water back. Willa lifted one wet hand. Plip. The duck wiggled. Plop! Soon her first brave splash sent bubbles onto the faucet like tiny hats.
At last, Willa giggled so hard the towel on the rack bounced. Next bath, if you spot a duck with a proud orange beak, listen close for plip, plip, plip.
