🎨 How to color it

Color the twins’ starry swaddles in lavender and sky blue, the heart garland in rosy pinks, and the two rattles in sunny yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny stars, circles, and cap bands, then fill the larger blanket curves with smooth, even strokes. Try making the twins’ blankets similar but not identical, with one extra silver star hidden on each swaddle.

Every evening, when the hallway lights turned honey-gold, Iris tapped her rattle twice against the blanket: click-click. Her twin, Jules, answered with a soft kick, and the heart garland above them gave a paper whisper. Iris wanted the last sound before sleep to be their tiny two-person hello.

Until one evening, after click-click and kick, a third sound answered from overhead: ting. Iris went still. Because of that, Jules stopped kicking and stared up too. Because of that, Nurse Ana paused beside their alcove, smelling faintly of soap and peppermint, and lifted the sagging crib canopy where no one had thought to look. Tucked behind the fabric was a small silver bell, tied with ribbon, left by the night nurse who had welcomed the twins before sunrise.

At last, Nurse Ana tied the bell where the hearts could nudge it. Click-click, kick, ting. Iris blinked at Jules, and the room felt exactly the right size for three hellos. Next time you see the hearts above them, can you find where the third hello is hiding?
