Every day after snack, Juno patted the warm yard path and tried for three parade steps: slap, wobble, boom. The flowers smelled like sunshine, and the pull-elephant waited with its string curled in the grass. “Three!” Juno chirped.
Until one day, the ABC blocks tumbled into the path. Because of that, Juno had to stop and stack them. Because of that, the elephant’s string slid around one block and gave a tiny tug-tug. Juno waited, took one breath, then another. Finally, the blocks stood still, the elephant rolled free, and Juno stepped past them: one, two, three!
