🎨 How to color it

Color the baby's striped sleep cap in blueberry blue and cream, the moon blanket in deep navy with golden stars, and the cloud mobile in soft lavender and pale yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny hanging stars and crib swirls, then switch to broader strokes for the curtains, floorboards, and blanket. Try making the mobile’s big crescent glow with a gentle yellow halo so it feels like the crib is rocking under its own little moon.

Under the hush-hush curtains, Quincy tucked one hand around the top button of his striped pajamas. It looked like an ordinary button, pearly and round, but Quincy knew better. When the rocking crib went creak-creak, the button warmed like toast. The moon shapes on his blanket seemed to lean closer, and the little wooden runners made the floorboards hum a sleepy tune.

Quincy pressed the button once. Piff! His cap slid down over one eyebrow. He pressed it twice. Poff! The blanket stars wrinkled themselves into silly faces. The cloud mobile swayed, and the dangling sheep bobbed as if it had just heard the best joke in the whole night. Quincy snorted into his fist. “Again,” he whispered, which came out more like “Ginn.”

Then the twisty part happened: the button was not a button at all, but the round nose of the tiny moon painted on his pajamas, peeking through the cloth to share its giggle. Every time Quincy chuckled, it sent a soft silver wiggle up to the mobile, across the framed moon on the wall, and into the quiet chair waiting nearby. By morning, anyone who rocked that crib would feel a laugh hiding in the wood; can you spot the little moons keeping Quincy’s hush-hush secret?
