Every day after school, Juno stacked cardboard circles in the party workshop and taped on paper frosting, snip-snip, pat-pat. She wanted to make the tallest pretend cake for her brother’s fifth birthday, but the top kept wobbling like jelly.
Until one day, her glue cap rolled under the candle tray. Juno crawled after it and found a flat little box tucked where nobody ever looked. Because of that, she opened it and found glitter stars, tiny flags, and a note: “For the maker.” Because of that, she fixed the wobbly top with flag strings and crowned it with five bright candles. “I built it!” she shouted, sticky fingers shining. Next time you spot those five candles, see if you can imagine the snip-snip, pat-pat.
