🎨 How to color it

Layer the lion’s face in warm ocher, the braided mane strands in copper and deep chestnut, the knotwork border in moss green, and the round medallion in antique gold. Use sharp colored pencils for the many interlaced bands, following each ribbon over and under so the Celtic knots stay readable. For a quiet secret, shade the leaf shapes near the lion’s forehead slightly brighter than the rest of the mane, as if the medallion’s gold is waking them from below.

In the old knotwood hall, where rain tapped like fingernails on carved beams, Lior invented a game with no winner: trace a circle in ash, step away, and return only by paths that crossed themselves. He wanted to find the one place in the hall that felt as still as his own breathing. The braided floor lines kept leading him aside, under arches smelling of wax and cedar, past doors that opened to nothing but darker carvings.

At last his paws stopped beneath the roof’s central knot. The ash circle he had drawn was no longer on the floor. It shone at his chest, cool as moonlit metal, while every carved vine in the hall leaned toward it and settled. Lior did not roar. He stood exactly where the crossing paths had meant him to stand. Ever since, the lions of knotwood wear a round medallion below the mane, so they never forget the hidden center that finds them.
