🎨 How to color it

Layer the ghost in pearly white and pale lavender, the mansion stones in cool slate and mauve, the spired roofs in deep indigo, and the round moon in antique gold. Use sharp pencils for the many stained-glass panes, coloring one enclosed shard at a time so the black leading stays crisp. Try a warm-to-cool shift in the sky pieces—gold near the moon, then teal, violet, and midnight blue toward the curling edges.

At the top of the old observatory house, Ivar polished a plain glass doorknob with the edge of his sleeve, as he did whenever the moon climbed behind the highest spire. It had no door now, only a cool weight in his palm and a faint scent of rain trapped in its facets. Below him, the house settled with small wooden sighs, and every dark window waited as if holding its breath.

Moonlight arrived slowly, pouring over the roofs in silver sheets. Ivar lifted the doorknob to admire the familiar cloudy center, but tonight the glass answered: a circle of gold opened inside it, then another, and another, like a quiet sun learning to speak. The windows did not need opening; they were listening. Each pane caught a splinter of light and passed it on, tower to tower, until the whole house glittered in colors Ivar had never owned alone.

Then he understood why he had kept the doorknob after every other hinge and latch had vanished. It was not a handle to the past, but a prism for anyone near enough to wonder. Ivar rose through the bright air, laughing without sound, and turned the glass once more so the joy could travel beyond the highest spire, where the moon climbed behind it.
