🎨 How to color it

Layer the crescent moon in deep indigo, the five large stars in antique gold, the tiny ringed planet in teal and coral, and the background swirls in smoky violet. Use sharp colored pencils for the lace-like star interiors and paisley bands, then switch to light pressure so the thick crescent outline stays crisp. For a playful twist, make each big star’s center glow from pale lemon to bright gold, as if they are sharing the same secret joke.

The story behind this coloring page

Nella’s Five-Star Dare — Ink dried slowly on the night side of the crescent, smelling faintly of almonds and cold stone. Read the full story →

Ink dried slowly on the night side of the crescent, smelling faintly of almonds and cold stone. Nella had given herself a ridiculous dare: tuck five laugh marks into the sky before the comet kettle whistled. She curled one into a star point, another beneath a paisley leaf, a third inside a spiral so tight it made her nose wrinkle. The silence around her felt plush, like velvet with a wink in it.

The fourth mark went in neatly. The fifth misbehaved. It slipped from her pen, bounced along a silver swirl, and landed on the little ringed planet passing below. The planet cleared its throat—an elegant, squeaky “Ahem!”—and began reading every hidden laugh in a grand announcer’s voice. Stars trembled. Spirals snickered. Even the crescent seemed to hold its curved belly.

Nella did not erase a thing. She added one more curl, not hidden at all, and the planet read it louder for everyone drifting by. The joy became too large for one moon-calligrapher, so she left it shining there, still smelling of almonds and cold stone.
