🎨 How to color it

Color the oceans deep turquoise, the continents soft moss green, the compass rose sunny gold, and the little ships cherry red. Use sharp colored pencils for the thin coastline borders, dotted travel paths, and compass points so the tiny details stay crisp. Try shading the dotted routes from pale yellow to orange, as if each arrow is carrying a warm lantern trail around the globe.

Under the lantern chart, Carys pressed a tiny compass needle into her palm and listened to rain tick the roof like rice in a jar. She only wanted to carry it across the quiet harbor hall and place it on the big route map before the night ship sailed. The map room was warm. The hallway was not.

Past the door, the floorboards sighed. A rope scraped outside, wet and scratchy, and the sea smelled of salt and iron. Carys dropped one blue ribbon from her braid to tie open a flapping window, then kept going with one ribbon missing. At the map table, the needle shivered, not toward the marked route, but toward a blank curl of ocean. “All right,” she whispered. Her voice sounded small, but it stayed.

She drew one new dotted path and set the needle at its start. By morning, the ship’s bell rang safe through fog, and Carys came back with cold fingers, one ribbon, and a braver step than she had left with. If you trace the dotted paths, can you find the quiet curl where her needle first pointed home?
