🎨 How to color it

Color Earth’s oceans bright blue, the continents leafy green, the Earth Day tote sunny yellow, and the reuse jar pale aqua. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big round planet and bag, then switch to a sharpened green pencil for the small leaves and star points. Try giving the smiling sun orange-and-gold rays while leaving the clouds white so the busy garden scene stays bright.

Beside the Earth Day supply stand, Quill set out a tote, a water bottle, and an empty jar. He had just invented Swap-and-Sprout: place one used thing in the jar, wait for three new leaves to wiggle, then trade for a fresh adventure. The sun felt warm on his nose, and the bottle made a plink-plink sound when he tapped it.

At first, nothing happened. Quill bounced on his toes, counted bees, and sniffed the sharp green smell of seedlings. “Your turn, jar,” he whispered.

Then the surprise came from under the round world display: tiny roots pushed up, carrying a paper star. Earth had been playing too, saving every patient turn until the sprouts were ready. Quill tucked the star in his tote and began again, slower this time—next time you see the smiling Earth, can you find where the waiting leaves popped out?
