🎨 How to color it

Layer deep ocean blue into the seas, moss green and ocher across the knot-filled continents, silver on the crescent moons, and pale lavender in the curling clouds. Use sharp pencils for the interlaced bands and coastlines, coloring one ribbon path at a time so the over-under Celtic knots stay readable. Try a dusk-to-dawn background, blending indigo near the stars into soft peach behind the lower cloud bank.

Before maps learned to lie flat, Thalen kept a blue-black bowl of night beside his window and invented a game with a silver stylus: trace one coast, cross one wind, tuck one leaf under a wave, and never lift the hand. The line made a soft rasp like rain on slate. He meant to keep the game for himself, because the joy of each loop arriving home was almost too large to speak.

Then the clouds leaned close, smelling of snow and salt, and the smallest star tapped the rim. “My turn?” it asked. Thalen laughed so quietly the moon bent thinner to listen. He passed the stylus upward, and the star drew through storm, root, river, and road until every path touched another without ending.

Earth warmed under the woven lines. Ever since, her winds curl, her rivers wander, and her old green places carry knots, because joy that large had to be shared.
