🎨 How to color it

Layer the oceans in deep teal, the continents in moss and ocher, the cranes in pearl gray with black-tipped feathers, and the curling art nouveau vines in gold. Use sharp colored pencils for the feather bars, coastlines, and tiny stars, then switch to smooth circular blending inside the larger globe sections. For a dramatic twist, fade the background scrollwork from midnight blue at the corners to pale lavender near Earth, letting the cranes feel lit by orbiting moonlight.

Every evening, Vera stamped safe wind routes in the celestial migration hall, where brass drawers clicked and the air smelled of rain on stone. She had set herself one private challenge: touch the unnamed ninth current before the hour bell. One day the current snapped her ribbon bookmark and streamed away, bright as a blade. Because of that, the crane callers lost their measured paths; because of that, Earth’s map began to whirl beneath their wings. Vera ran into the rushing dark, palms cold, and tied her ribbon to the wild wind at last. The hall rang with wingbeats, and the safe routes smelled of rain on stone.
