🎨 How to color it

Color the sphinx’s mane in layered amber and chestnut, its feathered wings in peacock teal and lapis blue, the traveler’s robes in warm sand and ivory, and the crescent arch in aged gold. Use sharp pencils for the tiny hieroglyphs, wing curls, lotus borders, and mane strands, saving broader marker fills for the dunes and open night sky. Add a violet-to-indigo gradient behind the crescent moon so the gold arch and pale staff feel lit by hidden starlight.

Beyond the salt flats, where wind combed the dunes with a dry, whispering sound, Imret followed a map inked on the inside of his sleeve. He wanted one true doorway into the city the stars kept misplacing. The moon smelled faintly of cold metal; his crescent staff trembled when he touched the sealed gate. Then the stone lion above the plinth opened one gold eye and asked, “What did you bring that cannot be stolen?”

Imret’s mouth filled with dust. He had no jewel, no sword, no royal seal—only a line his mother used to hum when storms hid the road. He sang it once, barely louder than the sand. The sphinx lowered its vast wings, and every feather curled into the shape of a remembered path: caravan tracks, river bends, a child’s first brave step. The gate unlatched without a sound. Ever since, sphinx wings have kept those curling marks, so no lost traveler’s courage is ever stolen by the wind.
