🎨 How to color it

Layer honey ocher over the giraffe’s coat, deepen the patterned spots with burnt sienna, color the lilies ivory with gold stamens, and make the curling vines a muted sage green. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny scrolls on the face, ossicones, and neck, following each curve slowly so the black outlines stay crisp. For a subtle art nouveau glow, blend pale teal into the open background corners and let the warm giraffe stand forward.

The story behind this coloring page

Nola’s Lily-Seal Secret — Under the moon arcade, Nola kept her cheek against the warm stone pillar, listening to lilies breathe out their peppery perfume. Read the full story →

Under the moon arcade, Nola kept her cheek against the warm stone pillar, listening to lilies breathe out their peppery perfume. She wanted one unopened bloom for her narrow alcove, where the night air always felt borrowed, so she stepped beyond the vine arch and into the silver hush. A thorn combed through her mane and took a thin ribbon of hair; the path kept the price without apology.

At the far pool, every lily was open except one, tight as a folded letter. Nola lowered her mouth to snap the stem, but the bud clicked. Beneath it, where nobody had thought to look, a small brass seal turned in the mud, stamped with the same curling mark she had carried on her coat since birth. When she pressed it to the arcade wall, a hidden door sighed inward, smelling of rain, leaf dust, and home.

She returned without the lily, wearing the thorn’s missing ribbon like a quiet question. In her alcove, the new doorway breathed moonlit air around her shoulders, and for the first time the stone did not feel borrowed. Nola rested her cheek against the warm pillar and listened to the lilies breathe.
