🎨 How to color it

Color the central heart in deep garnet, the roses in antique crimson and dusty blush, the leaves in dark ivy green, and the gothic arches in cool stone gray. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow vine crossings, rose petals, and layered tracery, working from the tight inner curls outward so your hand does not smudge the details. For extra drama, shade the background arches with smoky blue-violet while keeping the heart’s scrollwork warmer, as if candlelight is caught inside the thorns.

Every night, Marrow raced the storm bells, hammering scrap iron into tiny curls before the last bronze note shook dust from the rafters. They had set one rule: finish a heart of their own making without using a pattern. Then one night the bell rope snapped, thunder shoved the foundry doors open, and rain hissed across the coals like a thousand snakes.

Because of that, Marrow had to work by lightning, twisting hot rods into thorny vines while roses of hammered copper cooled under their tongs. Because of that, the wild heat bent the frame larger than planned, curling it into a fierce, open heart. At dawn, Marrow quenched the final leaf; steam bloomed, metal sang, and their palms stung with pride. The storm bells were silent, but the rafters still seemed to ring with every tiny curl Marrow had hammered from scrap iron.
