🎨 How to color it

Layer the peacock’s body in deep teal, its lifted tail plumes in emerald and peacock blue, the ferns in sage, and the curling border vines in warm olive. Use sharp pencils for the narrow feather veins and scrollwork, coloring each plume from its outer edge toward the center to keep the mirrored shapes crisp. Try a soft gold wash inside the tallest tail curls so the bird glows against cooler green foliage.

At the cool mouth of the vine arcade, Soren set one blue seed on the path and promised himself he would bring it back before the fountain’s third drip. The arcade smelled of damp fern and old stone; every leaf leaned close, glossy as if it knew how long he had stayed beneath his familiar arch. He stepped out anyway. One pace. Then another. A thorn combed through his train and stole a fine green filament, leaving a pale line that stung in the air more than on his skin.

Halfway down the corridor, the seed rolled beneath a curtain of heart-shaped leaves. Soren could have turned back with the excuse tucked neatly under his wing. Instead he lowered his bright tail until it brushed the moss, made himself small, and listened: drip, hush, drip. His beak found the seed beside a sleeping snail shell, and beside it lay a dropped sliver of amber glass, warm from a stripe of sun. He carried both home slowly, not because he feared the arch now, but because the ferns had begun to smell sweet after rain. At the cool mouth of the vine arcade, Soren set down the blue seed and kept the amber light.
