🎨 How to color it

Color the mushroom caps cherry red with cream spots, the fairy’s wings pale lavender, the daisy centers golden yellow, and the curling vines fresh green. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny windows, ladders, lanterns, and pebble path, then fill the larger mushroom caps with smooth marker strokes. Try giving each cottage a different door color—teal, plum, and warm brown—so the village feels secretly lived-in.

By dusk, one rule in Lantern Village mattered most: do not wake the glow-worms before they yawn. Sela had set herself a private challenge—to light all six hanging lamps without tapping, humming, or whispering hurry-up. She floated past cool mushroom doors and damp daisy stems, smelling rain tucked in the grass. Inside each lamp, a glow-worm slept like a comma of gold.

The first five woke slowly: blink… blink… blink. The sixth lamp, under the tallest spotted cap, stayed dark. Sela’s toes tingled from hovering, and her fingers wanted to jiggle the little chain. Instead she breathed with the vines while a snail crossed three pebbles below, silver-slow and certain. “I can wait smaller than a whisper,” she said.

At last, the sixth glow-worm opened one green-gold eye. Its lamp swung once, and the light spilled downward, not into the sky, but onto every doorstep, ladder rung, and pebble trail. That is why mushroom houses have lanterns hanging under their caps ever since: patient light knows the way home. If you spot the fairy near the lamps, keep the secret and count the pebbles slowly with her.
