🎨 How to color it

Give the Ferris wheel frame a bright cherry red, the round gondolas sunny yellow, the ticket booth sky blue, and the cotton candy cart a cheerful teal. Use sharp colored pencils for the wheel’s many spokes and gondola window panels, then switch to broader strokes for the open sky and paths. Try making the cotton candy puffs pale pink and lavender so the little cart feels extra sweet beside the bold red wheel.

Under the big fair wheel, Nico pressed one sneaker on a crack in the path and invented Wheel-Wink. The rules were simple: pick one round gondola, wait for it to reach the top, and guess what it had “winked” at in the sky. The air smelled like hot sugar and grass. Click-click-click went the wheel. “That one winked at the cotton candy,” Nico told his cousin Bea, because the nearest cloud looked fluffy enough to eat.

Soon the game ran away with him. A gondola winked at a cloud shaped like a fish, so Nico made a fish face. Another winked at a lumpy cloud, and Bea declared it a potato wearing a hat. They laughed so hard the ticket seller leaned out of the booth to hear the next guess. The cotton candy vendor, without looking up, twirled a pink puff into a perfect little fish.

Then Nico noticed the twist: the vendor was playing too. Each time the wheel clicked past the top, he spun the next answer onto a paper cone—fish, potato, tiny hat, then a wobbly cloud with a tail. Nico dared the wheel to wink at something impossible. High above, a gondola paused by the brightest cloud. Down below, the vendor grinned and made a cotton-candy question mark. If you follow one gondola to the top, what do you think it winks at next?
