🎨 How to color it

Color the volleyball in sunny yellow and ocean blue stripes, make the net posts warm tan, and fill the waves with turquoise. Use broad crayon strokes for the sandy court, then switch to a sharper pencil for the small net squares and the tiny sailboat. Try making the sky pale blue near the clouds and a little deeper above the palm trees.

All morning, a striped ball held very still in the warm sand. Bren had made himself a challenge: no rolling until the sun touched the sea. The shore smelled salty and sweet, and the volleyball net hummed softly in the breeze.

Then tiny sand-skaters came tip-tap over the court. Their feet were hot from the bright dunes. Bren could have stayed in his round, proud spot, but he nudged himself just enough to make a cool patch. “Here,” he whispered. Nobody on the sailboat saw. Nobody under the palms clapped. The net noticed, though. It stretched its strings into little shady squares for every small traveler after that. Ever since, beach nets share shade in checks, while a striped ball tries to hold very still in the warm sand.
