🎨 How to color it

Color the ninja’s kimono deep plum with blush-pink blossoms, the lotus pond soft teal, the arched bridge warm cedar, and the stone lantern pale gray. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny flower patterns on her sleeves and sash, then switch to broader strokes for the open water and robe panels. Try a sunrise gradient behind the cherry branches, fading from peach near the bridge to light blue at the top.

Beside the lily pond, Mina held an empty scent pouch to the cool morning air. She wanted one breath of moon-lotus to tuck under her pillow, so her room would smell like rain, petals, and the hush after bells. The newest bloom opened only beyond the red bridge, where the reeds clicked together like tiny wooden teeth. Mina stepped from her dry stepping-stone anyway, kimono hem brushing wet leaves.

Halfway across, a carp splashed, and her sandal slid into the pond with a soft glup. Mina laughed under her breath, cold water squeezing between her toes, and kept going. But the moon-lotus had already folded tight. “Please,” she whispered. Then a warm flutter came from the old stone lantern. Inside, where nobody thought to look, rested a nest of paper petals, each one rubbed with lotus perfume and painted by the garden’s night watch.

Mina carried them home, but her room felt too small for such sweetness. She pinned the petals along the bridge rail, the gate, and the tea-house door, until everyone who passed smiled at the same secret. Next time you spot her by the lily pond, see if you can find where that big, shared joy first hid in the cool morning air.
