🎨 How to color it

Color the sauropod sage green, its oval spots teal, the striped scarf cherry red and cream, and the pine trees deep forest green. Use sharp colored pencils for the snowflake branches and scarf stripes, then switch to broader side-strokes for the rolling hills and open sky. Try making every snowflake a different pale shade—icy blue, lavender, and mint—so the dinosaur looks like it’s walking through quiet confetti.

Between the pine hills, Tavi stretched her long neck into the cold air and made herself a tiny challenge: count twenty snowflakes before one landed on her nose. Her striped scarf tickled under her chin. “One,” she whispered as a flake spun like a wheel. “Two, three…” The snow made no sound, but the trees smelled sharp and green, and her big feet made soft fwump prints in the powder.

By seventeen, Tavi had slowed down. Some flakes were easy stars. Some were crooked. One landed on her back spot and stayed there, sparkling. She waited, breathing little clouds, letting the winter drift instead of rushing it. At last a round, lacy flake floated toward her nose—and stopped just above it.

Then Tavi noticed the surprise: the snowflakes had been counting her, too. Each one had settled beside a footprint, marking eighteen, nineteen, twenty sauropod steps across the hill. Tavi grinned so wide her scarf bobbled. Next time you see the snow around her feet, can you spot where the patient counting began?
