🎨 How to color it

Color the dragon spring green with teal belly bands, make the knight’s armor bright silver, and give the castle stones a warm sandy gray. Use sharp colored pencils for the dragon’s small scale patches and the shield’s cross, then switch to broader strokes for the hills and road. Try a pale sunrise gradient around the round sun so the bowed dragon and open-handed knight feel wrapped in morning light.

Every morning, Edrin followed the winding road to the hill castle and pressed one ear to the outer stones. He wanted to hear the dawn hum that villagers said lived inside the gate. Usually, he caught only sheep bells, wet grass smell, and the clank of armor changing watch.

Until one day, the gate opened without a creak, and a young warden stepped out holding no spear, only one bare hand. “Did you lose a sound?” he asked. Because of that, Edrin bowed low enough for his horns to brush the grass. Because of that, his chest rumbled against the earth, and the whole hillside answered: stones, trees, road, even the round pale sun seemed to tremble.

Finally, the warden smiled and kept the gate open, not to let Edrin in, but to let the castle listen out. If you trace the curving road back with your eyes, can you feel where the morning hum begins?
