🎨 How to color it

Color the cupcake wrapper sky blue, the dripping frosting lemon yellow, the berries raspberry red and blueberry blue, and the sunrise peach over pale green hills. Use sharp colored pencils for the wrapper grid and picnic blanket, then switch to broader strokes for the big frosting swirls and open sky rays. Try making the drink straw striped in the same colors as the blanket, like a tiny secret code beside the cupcake.

Before the first warm stripe crossed the grass, Orin lined up three berry buttons on his frosting and tapped the straw in the striped cup. He had invented Sunrise Sip: follow a color, take one sip, and guess what the morning wanted. The first clue was red, gleaming on his cherry stem, but the red pointed away from the safe checkered blanket toward the trees where leaves clicked like tiny spoons.

Orin rolled into the damp meadow, leaving sugar grains behind in the clover. Under one small tree, the soil smelled dusty, and a beetle was nudging an empty acorn cap. Orin understood the secret of the game: the morning did not want a guess. It wanted a drink. “Just one,” he whispered, tipping the cup until the straw dripped cool juice at the roots.

He came back with less lemonade and a green leaf stuck to his frosting, but the tree lifted its branches into the sunrise. When you see the striped straw beside him, can you tell which color Orin followed before the first warm stripe crossed the grass?
